I have been working at Labatt Food Service

    The pay is good.

If you do a good job, you will be noticed.

Lots of cool, fun, intelligent people.

    My boss is fair.

Very stable company. Every year we grow in sales and hire more employees than quit.

The general tone (not every single detail) of first 3 reviews are is accurate. The culture is very uptight and out-of-touch with modern times. The dress code is long-sleeve white shirts and ties for guys. Certain people in power can be unnecessarily condescending and rude, which adds to the feeling that we are viewed as children. To be fair, most managers (especially the CEO) are nice and approachable.

Employee turnover is high, especially considering the state of the economy.

Vacation & holidays is a joke. The first year, we get 5 holidays and 0 vacation. We max out at 5 holidays and 15 vacation days during our 11th year. It takes TEN YEARS to reach a max of only 20 days. Everyone I know who works an 8-5 job outside Labatt reached or exceeded that during their first year or two. This policy leaves people feeling burnt out and increases the negative attitude that puts a damper on everything else.

Most importantly, it feels like no one listens to or cares about our opinions. I've heard many people say they've voiced concerns to management only to be told things like "you're not the first person to complain but we're not going to do anything about it," "we don't see a problem," "that's not the real issue" and "you should focus on X instead of being so negative."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When employees unanimously express the same views on what needs to change, listen to them. Don't treat them like they're whining for no reason. Don't claim that their views are wrong. Don't act like the company can do no wrong and what truly needs to change is the attitude of every single employee. Labatt is not just competing with the rest of the food distribution industry for employees, it is competing with every business in San Antonio and beyond. Many of those companies are way more with the times than Labatt in almost every way.

Please stop ignoring our opinions because our opinions are wrong and Labatt knows us better than we do. Right now, it feels like anything we say falls on deaf ears and nothing will change until the faces of upper management change.

There are definitely a few perks to working at Labatt, but nothing that makes it stand out as more than just a stepping stone. Something(s) needs to change if we want to slow the employee exodus. If turnover is bad right now, what's going to happen once the economy actually picks up?
