Current Employee - Stereo Conversion Artist in Carlsbad, CA
Current Employee - Stereo Conversion Artist in Carlsbad, CA

I have been working at Legend3D full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Clean environment. Welcoming staff. Talented artist from all around. Free food on pay weeks and Fridays. Wrap parties are amazing. Company works with contractors and staff on time off. Management staff works with Artist to ensure needs are met. Pay is better for artist new to the industry compared to being a runner at the Mill, with hopes one day of getting a dream job, even then still getting paid less in 3 years than what an artist received at Legend in 2 months.

    Cons

Teams in Stereo sections and Compositor sections are cooperative with new talent based on their standings. If Team A is known for their reputation for delivering work faster than asked for , Team A's lead and their subordinates ego increases. New talent that comes onto team isn't performing at pace Team A would like, Team A's lead complains and tries to rid New Talent before trying to find out how to invest time in making the New Talent be a Team A. Certain teams execute a form of prejudice before giving New Talent chance to grow. Management overlooks this, but still goes out of their way to give New Talent many opportunities if New Talent is demonstrating a will to improve, despite Lead's prejudice. Lead's who disregard their New Talent blame production. Management/Production is successful at this company because they know how to "cast" New Talent in respective teams. In effect, that's why Legend3D has earned a remarkable reputation as a 3D Conversion company. Better policies need to be enforced between Lead and Lead's artist, Many complaints from former artists outside of bring this up quite allot. Increased productivity could be achieved if Lead's were addressed this, if not enforced, despite reputation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To all Teams of artists whether they are overachievers or underachievers, Management should conduct an analysis of artist who left per Teams in designated Compositing/Stereo sections, and locate trends. Great talent that could of been needed. Opportune times are missed because Leads who have been there 3 yrs over have loss a sense of open-mindedness and executed a form of prejudice towards new talent. Their reputation sways management and management doesn't want to be caught in the cross-fire or fears losing more of it's talent that has improved the value of Legend3D. Review of Team leads and additional courses of leadership/ethics should be implemented. Certain Leads on Teams have an ego considering this has been their one and only industry job for over 3 years. Stereo3D is an outstanding aspect of the industry but at the end of the day it's learning only one job, which limits any artist/Lead alike, to have opportunities in other studios not Stereo related elsewhere.
