I have been working at Level 3 Communications full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Company is temporarily off the brink of perpetual collapse and bankruptcy
If making a bigger footprint is your primary goal, they've made good M&A decisions
A lot of options for sales
Lots of talent and smart people trying to solve big problems
Great campus in a great spot
    Pretty solid comp and benefits

    Cons

    Not innovative and not creative
Not looking for people who will challenge the status quo
Feels like you are perpetually on a hamster treadmill
No integration is ever completed, resulting in deeply complex and ruinous processes
Death by never ending meetings about meetings to schedule meetings
Has their eye on more network and that's all
No ability to perceive the other reasons why people want to work outside of their paycheck - which will attract mediocre employees who work just hard enough to get the paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is clear the C suite is not all on the same page. It is also clear the C's clear the bench periodically when someone is not nodding agreement and rocking the boat. This then trickles down to mid-level managers who grasp at straws to justify their organization. Then it trickles to employees who are in an episode of the office. If you want to amount to anything more than adding building counts to a messy portfolio in a messy inventory, try something new. You cannot buy your way into a strong culture. It starts with your leadership, and a lack of continuity or replacing giving trees with actual culture that is seen and heard, will never substitute.
