I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I am a home based employee that works in Sales. I have an incredible work/life balance, the pay is good, the benefits are good and I work with great people. Westlaw beat us to market with their new website and we've been scrambling to play catch up. 2011, 2012 and 2013 have presented some challenges. But we have caught up to Westlaw and now have a comparable product. And as we continue to make acquisitions and innovate, the company continues to do well.

    Cons

It's frustrating working for the company that wants to be #1 but faces an uphill battle against a very capable competitor. Westlaw is a good company that offers a great product and is very competitive with Lexis. So it's a constant battle to try and win customers.

Additionally, many parts of the company are flat. There aren't opportunities for upward growth in certain divisions so you have to go to other parts of the company if you want to move your career forward. That's what I'm being forced to do. But if you understand that coming into the job with Lexis, it's not a big deal. Some people are happy doing the same job for 10 or 15 years. The pay is good and if you enjoy the work, it's not a problem. But if you want to advance your career, you have to be open to moving around the company and potentially the country.
