Former Employee - Production Coordinator in Washington, DC

I worked at LivingSocial full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Company has attracted some good young talent, so there's smart people working here. Thus, it's a great place to network. Informal dress, free cheap snacks, and booze. They'll also hire young people who don't have much experience, so that's good if you're trying to start a career.

    Cons

Unstable (company has had to lay off hundreds of employees in one day on two different occasions)
    Inept middle management
Pay is poor outside of the higher tech departments
Senior level leaders have all the power but a track record of failure
Company has never had more than two consecutive successful quarters of business since it scaled up years ago
Chaotic, unprofessional work environment; lots of finger-pointing and departments do not work well together
    Apathetic HR department
Culture is superficial and dependent on the individual efforts of employees/departments
Promotions are very hard to come by and raises without a promotion are even more rare. In my three years, the company never awarded employees the merit bonus, so don't believe it if you see it in your offer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope that the new CEO can right the ship. There's potential for a new CFO, CMO, and the company has never had a CTO or a COO. Starting over with new leaders and a focus on accountability is the only way things can rebound here.
