Former Employee - English Lecturer in Farmville, VA

I worked at Longwood University as a contractor for more than a year

I love that this is a small university focused on students over faculty publications. The school as a whole does a wonderful job fostering a sense of true community.

I was surprised by the lack of department camaraderie. With a few standout exceptions, faculty were willing to throw each other under the bus privately and publicly. In addition, support for incoming faculty to the department were provided only limited ramp up before being shuttle to a separate building and being left alone. I searched out input and conversations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You would do well to look outside recent grads of their own university for lecturers. Get some outside input on the departments. Encourage your department heads to foster a sense of community for new faculty.
