Former Employee - Customer Service Associate in Carol Stream, IL

I worked at Lowe's part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company back when I started years ago was quite the advantageous place to be. Great pay for cashiers and upwards. Lots of hours available and they always called me in for more. However, this is past tense.
-Great pay and plenty of departments to work in to advance. Great benefits when you hit full-time.

    Cons

In 2012, Lowe's began slashing hours drastically. Great pay was levied against with poor hours. The store in Carol Stream, IL is the quintessential example of cliques, bicker-battles, incompetent management, managers that create their own rules to follow, micro-managing, sexual harassment, NON-equal opportunity (If you're not just like them, then you're out of luck). The benefits are great as long as you are full-time. If you aren't, then it is terrible. If you call out sick then the management makes you feel like a low-life.
-Cliques, No rules for management, Managers disappear for hours only to yell at you later to finish twenty projects in five minutes time (if you don't, then you're a low-life), battles, stress, stand-offs, application stalemate, preferential treatment, rampant racism and bigotry on ground level, people stealing sales. Two-faced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise the company to reevaluate their ideas of what is fair. A job where someone makes $10.47 an hour is great, but not if one only makes 15 hours a week or less. A full-time job at $8.35 out pays that! Also reevaluate those you have as managers. They only look shiny and spotless when District and Regional are looking. The second you leave, the mask comes off and the barking starts all over again. Treat people as people and not as a replaceable item.
If anyone sees this from a position of authority at Lowe's, store 1821 is a disaster!
