Current Employee - Senior Engineer - Shift Operations in Carmel, IN

I have been working at MISO full-time for less than a year

this organization allows you to grow and become a better employee. I really enjoyed working in the real-time group, and it is a good place to work overall. At times that work is challenging and the hours are long but everybody is in the fight together and you do not feel like you are left alone. Also the flexibility of hours and the management styles of most of the managers are very good and promote a work-life balance

as with most small companies it can be a bit cliquish. However most of the managers are fair and adhere to the rules and apply them to say the same to all the people. The processes around software changes are quite cumbersome and can be frustrating if you are in certain groups such as real-time operations, but it is still a good place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

my advice to management would be to have more technical skill development for most of your employees. There are a lot of smart people at this company, but if you don't develop your peoples technical skills did it doesn't matter how smart they are. Also if the human resources department could have less say on promotions and moves within the company that would make things a lot better. Often times the human resources manager more or less can dictate who can or cannot take a position regardless of what the manager's stance is.
