I have been working at MTA - Metropolitan Transportation Authority

    Pros

Free transportation pass, health care benefits and pension (unless they take that away one day too)

    Cons

    Not enough space here.

    -Overly political
-No, lack there of, or miscommunication
    -Unprofessional
-Management from the top down is out of the loop although they claim there are
-Everything is about how many years you have left to retire and how long
    -Imbalance of work
-MTA pushes for inter-agency collobaration, but it never happens; although they try
-Years sitting and waiting for someone to die, retire or resign for you to move up
-When you do apply for a job (unless you know someone, have a civil servant title because NOT ALL OF US IN HERE DO, you will sit in the same department for years and years rotting away
-12 unions and all the layers of bureacracy that causes inefficiency and mediocrity
-Scandals and bad image in the public eyes
    -Lack of morale
-Many really do not do any work at all and get paid a lot of money
-Those of us that want to have a career are told that we came to the wrong place
-Those of us that have tried 14 times in 5 years to at least move laterally have found that politcs always wins here
It may sound like I am disgrunted, but I am not. I really am not. I came in here with a happy, excited and motivating energy, but at this point I just want out. Although, yes, in the economy it is a luxury to have a "job" that has benefits, but when there's nothing else to look forward to and they know how bad they operate and just continue to put bandaids on everything; in addition to not appreciating, rewarding and evaluating you for your performance, but just on a test score, then it's time for me to go elsewhere where perhaps I will be.

It's hard to deal with an organization that lets politcs win all the time over efficient, goal-oriented, and productivity.

It's sad and tragic all at the same time. Unless they get it together both internally and externally, the MTA will only breed what it has been for decades--status quo.

    Sad.
