I worked at MTA - Metropolitan Transportation Authority full-time

    Pros

Decent salary with low weekly hours, leaving time for family and extracurricular activities, such as professional advancements.
With usual benefits, the pay is worth at least 50% more when compared to usual private industry benefits.
Now, after Sandy windfall, they have tonnes of money for projects.

    Cons

Some areas and projects can be mind-numbing.. Simply, hurts the brain just to come to work.
High profile disastrous projects are just chewing up both the direct employees and contractors.
If a contractor, get ready for new extremes when it comes to treatment and skills. If you thought that you have seen the worst, you have not.
Triple check labor turnover and actual skills of your future co-workers and bosses when you join any of the high profile big-dig style jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MTA management takes no advice. Also, it depends on politicians.
