I have been working at Macy's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I started out at an embarrassing low wage, doing mindless work for managers that barely knew I existed and rather than leaving or becoming a nihilist, I then applied for a better position that challenged me and gave me a reason to get up every day-to help people. Compensation-My experience & education were acknowledged at this point and I got nearly a 50% pay increase. Benefits-After working at Macy's for 5 years, you get 18 vacation days a year. You can retire at 25 years-keep your employee discount. Company matches up to 6% in 401k.

    Cons

Leadership. People advance who have been with the company for 5, 10, 20, 30 years. But the problem is many of these old timers are so complacent and are completely out of touch with the real world. I have been on the receiving end or witnessed more than a handful of MANAGERS physically or verbally accost a front line employee like myself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in more supervisory and management talent from the outside world. You recruit college graduates to be your next leaders. These people have zero real world experience. Take some successful leaders from other brands and bring them in for a breath of fresh air. Diversify your management instead of bringing in the next class of kool aid drinkers.
