    Pros

The ability to pick up, get rid of, and trade shifts with other employees in the store. Working there in college is perfect, when I would randomly have a huge paper due soon I could just advertise some shifts to get time to finish school work. Also, if plans came up a few days before a shift, I could try to get the day off by going online. Of course, that is if someone picks up your shift. The company has "Macy's Money" they give out, mostly from opening credit cards to customers. With enough of those, you can get almost anything in the store for half off and an additional 20% employee discount.

    Cons

When it comes to the company actually doing scheduling, it has its flaws. Sometimes there won't be enough or even any people scheduled in a certain area so you are stuck doing more work. Often, a lot is expected from you, more than you get paid for. For example, say if you work in a clothing area, you may get paid almost minimum wage (my pay was 10 cents above when hired) you are responsible for cleaning out the fitting rooms, keeping the area clean, helping the customers, and keeping track of your scorecard. What is your scorecard? You have a sales goal everyday, need to open X amount of credit cards based on hours per week, usually have presale goals whenever you work, should have a certain amount of clients, and smaller things like number of sales per transaction. This scorecard "grading" is what depends on if or how much of a raise you deserve. They give raises ONCE a year. You can make your area look amazing at all times and work your butt off, but if your scorecard is not up to company standards, no raise or very little. With that, employees can stand at the register and not do anything but ring people up and they can get raises easily. Therefore, you may not actually get rewards for your hard work, while others will get rewards for doing no work (besides waiting for customers to come up to them).

    Advice to Management

Higher pay. If they really want the employees to "make magic" they need to "make magic" themselves and give a higher pay for the amount of responsibilities and expectations they have for their employees.
