Former Employee - Sales Associate  in  Lawrenceville, NJ
Former Employee - Sales Associate in Lawrenceville, NJ

I worked at Macy's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employee discount......only shop when there is a sale....otherwise the prices are extremely inflated.

    Cons

I worked for a short time (10 months) in Macys East Quakerbridge Mall NJ, and found the environment equivalent to being in an elementary school. The managers were employees who had no respect for the customers or their fellow co-workers. They were unorganized and managed their fellow employees by creating a culture of 'fear". They would sneak around and spy on associates to try to "catch" them doing something wrong. They would also talk about associates whom they did not like to others, creating a feeling of separatism instead of team work. The company does not properly train its new employees, setting them up for failure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of 1/2 of your useless management force and start training your remaining managers to be efficient, consistent, and organized with the staff that they are responsible for managing. They should lead by example. Train them on customer service both internal (employees) and external (consumers). You will get a better result from employees and customers who have your respect.
