Would be great if we were not berated daily, and made to loath contact with all humanity.

I have been working at Macy's

    Pros

Great place to work if you are in a fixed position, specially with seasoned workers who know their product (The best people to shadow on the floor). Nice to work slow hours with little customer flow for several hours. If you are a cold hearted shark, or plain just do not invest emotionally in a job, this place is great for you.

    Cons

Not the best place for someone who listens to their customers and respects their choices. Mean managers slither around pressuring for sales goals to make themselves look better for their managers.
The pay is embarrassing for the level of knowledge and service you must give to others.

You now no longer receive raises based on customer service, it is all on Sales per Hour, Items per Transaction, Sales goal (to get this you must do 110 at least of your goal), of course there is 3 accounts to every 40 hours if you are full time (full time actually often is 28 HOURS) You will only have a raise if you make decent scores in money related stats. You must chat up every customer...not for the joy of a hello but to gain knowledge on what to sell them (even if they do not want it)

Expect to have to hear no on a card over three times, before it is okay to stop asking. Be aware that you will never have a 9-5 thing. Do not go to school, or have another job, they want you to work Macy's first and do everything else last.

Others with better scores have better treatment. You will be harassed often by "the bosses boss" when they come in on busy days, to question and belittle if not frighten associates into scattering away from them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do not pick on associates with poor scorecards, be friendly. Get into "ringer mode" and help the ones that seem to not do well. Stay out of the offices, be on the floor and know all your product. Store managers should be a hub of information. Be sweet and smile often, otherwise you will end up with horrible pet names, and people who want to quit every time they see you nearby.

Please do not coddle spoiled customers. Be firm and teach policy. Make everyone count, listen to everyone. Breath. Maybe scores will get better if managers learn to be professional. Give raises and acknowledgment to the seasoned employees. Specially ones that have been with the company for longer than 4 years. It's shameful to see such loyalty be disregarded. I received a raise on the first year of work, which is wonderful, but what about someone who has been there longer than I and still making basic pay ( and we are talking over 5 years, more like 20)? Please, treat those loyal associates with more attention. Yes, many of them are old, and the new thing is young, but they are the backbone of their departments.

I wanted to be a manager till I saw the way you have to act to be in that cut throat competition. It's sad. Poor attitude is learned, so show better examples.
