    Well where does one start. They self-insured to provide their own unemployment and (jokingly said) they would deny any and all benefits to those who filed - the temp employees would be forced to work.

    They were a business insurance company that got into the staffing industry, and this is where they thought the self-insurance would be to their/their customer's benefits. I guess no one realized that laws are still applicable. Meaning, if the employee/temp files for benefits and Mainstay denied them for no reason, they didn't take into account that these people would question the decision. Their reasoning for declining benefits was "employee turned down job". When in reality, they would contact a registered temp employee at 7:59 AM for a job 45 minutes away that started at 8:30. They had no vehicle to get there because wife drove it to work, Even if they had the car, they had no opportunity to arrange babysitting for four year old. They would deny benefits because the employee turned down the job. Well, long story short - these things were all reversed. Oh, the money they thought they would save the customer... well that all went to fines, legal costs, and oh, paying the temp the unemployment benefit they were entitled to.

    When the company we were working for was bought out by Mainstay in 2008, there was an informal "interview" with the branch. Some overweight blonde, who had all the signs of having an affair with the associate that showed up with, her out of the blue started shouting at the room, there were about four of us, no clue of who it was directed to, but started shouting JUST DON'T P-I-S-S ME OFF!! I remember sitting there thinking oh my god, she sounds like that pushy so-and-so we all remember from the girls room in high school. Always looking to start an argument or pick a fight for no reason. I don't know, maybe she thought someone was checking out her boy toy.
