Current Employee - Customer Assistant in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Marks & Spencer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

High standards and shows well on your CV. I work as a customer assistant and found very easy to get in, interview went very smoothly. Basic salary is okay compare to the competition although bonus is really disappointing as we haven't got a penny meanwhile the other big company's employee were gifted with a two months worth of extra. A good place to pick up some basic but useful skills such as customer service and communication skill that will be an asset later on with your career.

    Cons

No bonus, Wage increase have also been below inflation.Technology at work is quite old. You might be able to progress instore to the Section manager level if you stay long enough with the company and get on well with those in power of making decisions but progressing towards head office from store is a real challenge. Without a big back wind of regional managers it is not something that you should give too much hopes in even if you are with the company for a long time and you have the right educational background. You should do that in another way. Work is monotone and lacking of excitement if you have ambitious plans in your mind.
