I loved working with the kids, and most of the staff/faculty members were energetic, kind, and easy to work with.

If you are a patient person, you will build relationships with the students that will enable you to support them well as they go about their day-to-day activities and academic work. Seeing them flourish will only fuel your desire to meet them where they're at, stick to their behavior plans, and to be a helper to them.

It can be an exhausting job if you don't keep a good attitude. Some days are longer and harder than others. Honestly, though, if you try to see the good even in the off moments, you'll enjoy the job so much more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember what it's like to be "in the trenches" -- though your love for the students was evident, it sometimes felt as though you had lost touch with what those of us in the classrooms dealt with every minute of every day. Encourage teachers and teacher aides to come to you without fear of judgement or criticism that is not constructive. And PLEASE be conscious of "playing favorites." You may not realize you're doing it, but there were certain other staff/faculty members who the rest of us knew we could not talk to you about because they were a favorite of yours, and that is a wall you don't want built in such an otherwise positive work environment.
