A noble profession, though emotionally challenging, mostly thankless and poorly compensated

I have been working at Massachusetts Department of Children and Families

    Pros

This position comes with job security and a good benefits package. Depending on your supervisor, it can be a flexible work environment making it easy to manage family responsibilities. Despite the emotionally challenging nature of the work, the payoff of having a positive impact on a child or family's life can be greatly rewarding

    Cons

This is a very difficult job. People don't want to hear that they aren't keeping there children safe. You are confronted with emotionally painful situations of child abuse and neglect and on occasion are forced to remove children from their parents. In less dramatic cases you are faced with trying to help people improve their family relationships and address issues of substance abuse, mental health problems and anger management.
