I worked at McREL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

McREL can present itself as a professional organization with competitive salaries to applicants they highly favor. The company has a history of publishing research-based educational products and providing effective professional development. I worked with some of the most talented colleagues I've known while at the company.

    Cons

The leadership at Denver headquarters requests input on business directions and feedback on operational functions. However, ultimately, the creative contributions of dedicated employees has little impact on decisions and company growth is stunted. The Honolulu office poorly manages funds, personnel, and partner relationships with no meaningful research to show for the Pacific Regional Education Laboratory (REL). In less than a year, nine employees (more than half) left the REL staff. I believed their spiel about commitment to Pacific educators and students and I was disappointed to learn the company's intent and character.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership in the Denver headquarters and the Pacific office could improve working relationships, productivity, and revenue if they actually applied the high reliability practices they sell to educational organizations.
