You are not a worker, here your job title should be slave instead.

I worked at Mears Transportation Group - Motor Coach Division full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Its a job, and the pay isn't minimum wage for bus drivers.
The people you work with are some of the most humble people i've had the pleasure of meeting.

    Cons

    Management, especially the owner
    Long hours, changing schedules
Depending on your charter, tips may be a part of your title, but you wont be allowed to get them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was recently terminated about 2 months ago from this aweful company. Thankfully i was able to get into a much better job. I post this as a warning to anyone wanting to get involved with this company. Do not expect anything other than an entry level job paying as little as possible. We are considered "tipped workers" under the guise that we might actully be allowed to collect them. Because of this we aren't even paid overtime for hours worked after 40.

When it comes down to it, they want you to suffer. They make working for them as difficult as possible, and 90% of people in management are completely incompetent. It could have been fine, a couple years ago, the possibility of a union was looking good, but the company ran a smear campaign against the union and the CEO of the company opened an office on premises saying "you are welcome to come and talk to me whenever you want" the moment the union push was over, that office was abandoned.

Mears workers are some of the most patient people alive having to deal with such a horribly run company. Like most of the other reviews I've seen, id like to also mention that getting fired from this place is a day to day possibility. Do not think for one second that you have any kind of job security here. Get some experience and go find a better job than this one as soon as you can. Some of you would call me an upset previous employee, but i assure you, the reason i was terminated was ridiculous at best, and illegal at worst. Lets just say, don't ever let them think you got tips from someone. To them this is a capital crime, because they really and truly believe that all of that money belongs right in their pockets.

On a final note, I wouldn't foresee this company lasting too much longer, there is a new cab service that seems to be ready to annihilate the crappy services that mears provides.
