Former Employee - Teacher  in  Melrose, MA
Former Employee - Teacher in Melrose, MA

I worked at Melrose Public Schools full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are some wonderful teachers who are dedicated, and work hard to educate their students. Teachers work under stressful conditions and there is a fair amount of camaraderie.

    Cons

The administration is very poor. Discipline issues are handled poorly, students may have little or no incentive to behave. The interior of the building is like a jail, cinder block walls, few windows, nasty lighting. The pay scale is among of the lowest in Massachusetts, giving some idea as to the level of support from the community. Turnover rate is very high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow a backbone! Instead of firing teachers at a high rate, learn to mentor, cultivate and develop your staff. Stop with the catchy phases that "guide" your principles, life is more complicated than that.
