Tries too hard to be "cool" but fails at the basic important stuff

    Former Employee - Analyst

I worked at Merkle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -work from home flexibility
-fun work atmosphere if you like to drink
-typically hire GREAT talent and you'll meet some great people
-Pay and vacation are solid, insurance like most places is okay
-interview is tough but that's why you get good talent

    Cons

-the great talent mentioned above gets tired and leaves
-I'd estimate at least 80% of the employees have been there less than 2 years. Think about that turnover for a minute with almost 2000 employees
-work you to death and disguise it as "work hard, play hard"
-promotion path is to "manager" so if you can make it there a year you'll be a manager, just like the other 90% of the employees then you can pad your resume and leave
-mentioned above if you start as a non-management position you will have 9 bosses so just like Office Space, God forbid you don't Bold the heading of an Excel report because you're going to hear it 9 times
-Basically no corporate team cooperation. You work on your account and those 5-15 people will be all you work with. Basically it's MANY jobs all working in one. The job has the potential to be good but all depends on your account and more than likely it'll be bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to be so "cool" and trying your hardest to get into the top 100 places to work if people go to bed at night absolutely miserable they have to wake up and go to work the next day. This is the most stressful and unsatisfying place I have ever worked despite working with some of the best people I've ever met. This company has a long way to go to be able to retain top talent and although they like you to believe they are improving the fact is they are bandaiding the deep issues with booze parties and baseball games.
