I worked at Met Office full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pension - which has been capped
Salary (for the region) which is capped until the Gov releases it.
Relatively secure job as it is virtually impossible for them to lay off any staff.
Nice gardens outside for a walk.

    Cons

Don't be fooled by the brand. They are trading on past glories.
    Full of office politics.
Promotion is through old boys network
Zero women on the Director board = sexism is rife throughout the organisation.
If you are joining it will be at the bottom of the pay band - regardless of what is advertised - this is non negotiable.
It is a civil service organisation playing at doing commercial stuff. They have no idea what they want to do.
There are a lot of "lifers" there - people who have been in the job for 20+ years and looking to run out the clock there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is double counting across the whole organisation to justify directors areas. Stealing from Peter to feed Paul.

You could eliminate a whole layer of middle management- Exec Heads or Heads - who do nothing other than report on what their teams are doing. Genuinely.

There is no such thing as "open and fair competition" for promotions - stop pretending there is. Favourites are always picked.

Where are the senior women? Why are they never promoted? What is the ratio of men to women on the Met Office Board?

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
