I worked at MidAmerican Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are fantastic. Annual bonus for salary employees is good so long as someone else doesn't ruin it for everyone. Hourly employees are paid well.

    Cons

The company is trying to destroy the unions that work for them. There is a strong division between the hourly and salary sides and the salary side has no desire to improve relations. One of the worst things I have seen upper management do was punnish every salary employee at a power plant by slashing the annual bonus because of the actions of two lower managers. The company also unfairly piles work onto salary employees. I have lost count at how many coworkers quit, and their workload was added to someone else instead of hiring a replacement. There are literally employees doing the work of four jobs but only getting the pay of of one. I was terminated because this happened to me, but wasn't trained for the last job that was added to my workload, and I made a mistake. No warning, just termination. I know some engineers who are doing more work than senior engineers but management won't promote them. I know women who aren't getting promoted because they are women. The company proclaims it is ultra environmentally friendly, but in reality environmental and safety both take a back seat to the budget and upper management's annual bonus. My advice: talk to someone at the company in a similar position before accepting employment. MidAmerican Energy is losing its knowledge base and can't find replacements who will work for them. It is for a reason.
