The co-workers are the best part of the job, most are fun and easy to get along with.

It is a good job for high school kids to gain some work experience.

    Flexible with school schedule

    Tuition reimbursement

The pay is below average for management. I know people who have less responsibility and make more money than I do.

The medical and dental insurance plans are not very good. You will still end up paying a lot of money for bills.

There are no incentives to transfer to a busier location.

Poor communication between the Mike's locations and the corporate office.

Mike's got rid of their gainsharing and gave a $1 raise to all existing employees, but I easily made more than $1 in gainsharing. The more you worked the more gainsharing you made.

It is very hard to earn a raise or move up in ranking unless you tell Mike's you plan on being there for a long time.

Locations are short staffed, so employees are over worked. You can guarantee typically not ever having a weekend off. Also it is hard to complete tasks on a daily basis and be out of production because of the high customer volume.

After creating the unlimited program, there are NEVER slow days. Even if it is pouring rain, the unlimited customers will still wash their car.

Work conditions are brutal. Winters can be unbearable, to the point you can't feel your fingers or toes from being outside for too long. If a location is busy then it is difficult to stay warm because the employees have to stay outside until the customer is taken care of. As for summer, it can be hard as well when temperatures reach 80+ with the humidity.

You have to wear a tie unless it is 80 degrees out, but in the loading area where cars are sprayed, it is easily 15-20 degrees hotter. So you can only imagine how much you will sweat up there.

    Advice to Management

Increase the pay or give more incentives, like higher pay on the weekends, especially since mike's is only closed 3 days out of the entire year. Let the employees take their ties off if it's 75 degrees instead of 80 out. If things changed, I feel more employees would feel more valued and not quit all the time.
