I have been working at Milbank Tweed full-time

    Pros

Almost all high caliber colleagues and usually interesting work (depending on the group), typical biglaw salary starting at $160k. Nice offices.

    Cons

Typical challenges of a medium to large NYC law firm - long hours, no respect for personal time and depending on the individual, communication can get nasty and disrespectful in a deal crunch. Junior work is not always fascinating but this is just inevitable paying of dues and there is scope to work above your level if you show interest and capability. The firm is not particularly generous with perks. As in any organization like this, if you do good work you need to know how to say no or you will be completely consumed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More emphasis on real mentorship, training, feedback and quality of life. Get rid of work avoiders who ride on other's coattails and actually recognize and reward those who go above and beyond in quality and with their billable hours - these people are the only reason the firm can operate with hangers on. I realize it is a law firm and structurally there is only so much that can be done but need to address those individuals who treat juniors with disrespect or you will drive A players away.
