I worked at Molex full-time (more than 8 years)

Excellent manufacturing capabilities. Manufacturing and design abilities are second to none. Great first job out of college, adequate product & business training for future positions. Average to above average career opportunities for those who will relocate and fit in with the culture.

Extremely hesitant to invest capital for technology/programs, including for global customers that dwarf Molex in both revenue and global presence. Inept/unqualified middle management in some cases who value hubris and tenure over sound business principles & objective analysis. Frustration resulting from being cut out of business opportunities due to Molex's inability to be decisive and execute. From a personnel perspective, Molex compensation and benefits were surprisingly easy to surpass, even in a very tough labor market when I decided to seek employment elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In my opinion, middle management (especially in Sales) is undertrained and in many cases undereducated. Tenure and relationships alone are excessively poor predictors of successful leadership. Evaluate other possible long-term business strategies, e.g., Policy Deployment (Hoshin) as a replacement to outdated and flawed MBO processes. Better oversight of sales training/development is needed. Recent Americas sales courses offered were based on thirty-year old techniques, and the literature has changed little since then. More effective programs/systems have existed for years, and there is no shortage of data to support this assertion. Finally, invest more in market research, have just a little faith in your business acumen, and learn to pull the trigger. It is difficult to lead a global market when Molex is first with technology and drawings, but second or third to market with actual product due to competitors' ability to identify market opportunities and execute, occasionally from work Molex has already done.
