I worked at Montgomery County Public Schools (Maryland) full-time (more than 10 years)Pros
Often, very interesting, engaged kids.
Occasionally, flexible and supportive schools or programs.
Great pay and benefits.Cons
Very competitive region, which means high-performing students and high expectations from parents. This isn't always bad, of course, except when everyone--students, teachers, parents--is constantly working at a high level of stress, and data points become the only thing that seems to matter to anyone.
Programs and initiatives rolled out with little planning and even less training.
Too great a push toward same-day, same-page; and all-honors classes.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Rotate admin and central office personnel through different schools and positions, lest they become complacent, ineffective, or too far removed from the kids and the staff.Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookNo opinion of CEO
