Former Employee - Financial Advisor in Honolulu, HI

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time (more than 5 years)

    Robust investment platform
Rewarding intellectually and financially (the latter potentially)
    Respected in the community
Attracts quality people as clients (generally driven and smart)

Compensation continually changes (every year) so stability is hard to find.
Treated like a number and not a person at times.
    Very bureaucratic and political.
Work environment may have tension because colleagues are competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more development of both advisors and staff, as opposed to purely financial equation incentives. People wanna be in a rewarding job. Also there is too much turnover of complex and branch managers. That leads to instability.

There is too much focus on the short-term (because upper management focuses on quarterly earnings and the value of stock options--not on creating long-term value for shareholders, employees and other stakeholders).

Despite this it was one of the best eras of my life. There is, however, much improvement that can be had.

    Neutral Outlook
