    I worked at Morgans full-time (less than an year)


    -Great pay
    -Cool perks, especially if visiting one of their sister hotels
    -Trendy, upbeat environment
    -Some celebrity sightings
    -Chances to move up or switch positions if you pass probation
    -Some of the hotel guests are amazing and you are encouraged to be friendly and socialize with them
    -Time flies because there is always so much to do. A great job if you are good at multitasking.


    This position isn't for a nice person. To fit in with the staff, you have to be edgy and caustic in your manner and speech. Be prepared to hear vulgar jokes, profanity, or to be gossiped about and you better not tell on anyone there because it will bite you in the butt. Rude, unfriendly, catty behavior is the norm here.

    -You are encouraged to profile people who come in. Its understandable, especially since the hotel is located in the Tenderloin and attracts a lot of shady people. But there are people that come in who may not look like your typical hipster or businessman and they are profiled. It would make me not want to ever return if I were a guest or patron.

    -Limited but ongoing trainings but you really have to catch on fast. You will not last if you're the kind of person who takes notes or asks a question more than once.

    -You have to improvise on the spot at times. There will be times when no one is available to assist you and you have a line full of angry guests. You have to use "common sense" to make everyone happy but the wrong common sense will get you written up.

    -Be prepared to work around the clock sometimes; you may work an overnight shift but have to come in at noon for a staff meeting, then work that same night.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Check in more with your staff (especially new staff) to make sure that they are feeling good about their employment there. Enforce stricter policies on tolerating violence (violent language), drugs, and bigoted language in the workplace.
