I worked at Muscular Dystrophy Association full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The relationship with families and coworkers makes it fun and meaningful. You can see the good you are doing for the patients and their loved ones.

    Cons

It's hard work! Raising money, meeting deadlines and goals. Depending on the Executive Director you can have a relaxed, flexible office setting or a intense everyone stays until after 5pm. If I was working on an event or project that needed more time from me I would stay late and work weekends so leaving early some days when things were slow or we were exceeding goals was ok for some and not for others.

    Advice to Management

Flexibility and more relaxed office setting always made staff more comfortable and produce better results. People are complex and have lives. If you want people to give great results give great management.
