If you need the pay check, by all means, come to NCR, but KEEP LOOKING FOR SOMETHING BETTER. Examples inside.

I have been working at NCR full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The good: It's a pay check... a job. That may not sound like much, but these days it seems to be increasingly rare. If you need the check, by all means, come to NCR, but always be looking for your first opportunity to get out.

    Cons

The bad: If you're considering NCR as an actual career choice, consider the following...

    - Company direction and upper management change on a near yearly basis, hampering your group's effort to gain any real traction.
    - Expect your benefits to be manhandled... every year. Reduction in 401k match, reduction in 401k investment options, reduction of YOUR 401k investment cap.
    - Expect to fight for up to two years to gain any reasonable pay increase, otherwise your increases will be outpaced by cost of living.
    - Expect little to no training for relevant skills. Expect no real path for career advancement. Expect little investment in your groups technology, etc.
    - Expect an out-of-whack work / life balance. Nights, weekends, even holidays are expected all too often.
    - Expect no investment in additional resources to balance increased need and work load.
    - Expect NCR and United Health Care to review your Dr's recommendations and deny claims.
    - Expect reduction in available pharmacies.

I could go on, but I don't want to seam as if I'm blindly bashing the company. The bottom line is, I have seen no evidence that this company cares about the well being, education, advancement or loyalty of it's employees. Don't get me wrong, they issue employee surveys, and offer all kinds of programs and small events to drum up NCR "spirit", but in the end, nothing changes for the better

As an example... NCR reduced 401k matches when the economy tanked, as did many (if not most) employers. For the last several years, we've endured email after email from the CEO touting how well were doing, with record growth and profits. Still no increase, until finally, this year (2014). They increased the match, but not back to where it was before the increase. They also stopped the monthly contribution of the match, and now make it once, at the end of the year. Then, they capped the amount YOU can contribute to your own 401k account. In addition, we used to have perhaps several dozen investment options in our 401k. Now we have just a few. The typical NCR line was provided... it's for our own good. Apparently we had too many options. This is just one example.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop reducing employee benefits and provide proper compensation increases. This kills employee morale which directly impacts the quality of the products and services we provide!

Stop the incessant re-orgs, restructuring, organization alignments. This kills the organizations' ability to gain traction in any given direction. We've had a much needed internal improvement project cancelled 3 times now with each recent re-org. The problems that need to be addressed with this project are severe!

Invest in your employees, your infrastructure and technology. If you want the "world class products and services" with the increased employee loyalty we hear so much about, DO SOMETHING THAT PROMOTES THESE IDEAS instead of killing morale and tying our hands behind our backs by not giving us what we need to succeed and provide quality products and services to our customers.
