    Pros

Competent & dedicated line staff, well funded, focused mission, new offices, well respected, good experience for future career mobility. In some roles compensation seems relatively in line with standards; however other roles have been vacant due to unwillingness to pay market rates.

    Cons

Similar to many nonprofit / association / political organizations senior management has not had any training in management, leadership, strategic planning, HR policies or organizational behavior. Decisions are made based on emotional, short term concerns rather than balanced, long term strategic vision. Career development does not exist resulting in turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strategic plans lack quantifiable metrics. Goal setting and performance review process is 15-20 years out of date. Try 360 review system. Focus on attracting and promoting the best management and brightest minds rather than perceived expertise in niche specialties. Sr. Mgmt should actively evangelize organization goals and interact with all employees at all levels on a consistent basis rather than hunkering down.
