    I have been working at National Brain Tumor Society

    Pros

    - Great technology
    - Strong mission, great cause in desperate need of support

    Cons

    - The organization breeds a highly toxic work environment.
    - The majority of c-suite staff are inexperienced and unqualified.
    - The CEO has a scattered vision driven solely by his own ego.
    - Even the simplest of tasks are botched and ownership is never taken.
    - Donor and volunteer appreciation is nonexistent.
    - ITS staff are incompetent.
    - Creative problem solving is not an option. More often than not, the answer is an immediate "no" or "can't".
    - The organization is silo'd into departments that are pitted against each other.
    - Despite intervention by consultants hired to resolve issues within organization, CEO and upper management do not take feedback to heart, nor are changes implemented to improve staff morale.
    - The organization seems obsessed with hiring consultants, rather than trusting the experienced staff members they hire.
    - The CEO plays favorites with certain staff members, blaming others for the mistakes of those he favors.
    - The majority of the staff are lacking the breadth of experience necessary to provide adequate mission delivery and constituent support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The board needs to really understand what is going on in the organization. The current CEO needs to step down and become the Chief Program Officer, which is where his passion and expertise lie. A new CEO with experience working in a large non-profit should be hired and his or her focus should be mainly on managing the business and the strategic growth of the organization. I'm truly concerned this organization, despite its amazing mission, will not be around for more than another year or two.
