    I have been working at National Futures Association full-time

    Pros

    NFA, the NY office in particular, is a great place to develop a solid understanding of the swaps industry. NFA has an excellent work-life balance and provides its employees with great benefits and training.

    Cons

    Salaries are low for the industry and most employees do not get bonuses, and there is clearly some favoritism regarding promotions. In addition, the decision-makers are too far removed from the every day work to see which employees actually work hard and are the backbone of the department, and those that are lazy, produce low quality work and merely suck up to the decision-makers. There is no accountability for those that pass off their work to others, and no incentives for the best employees to stay there given the problem with promotions and a lack of a merit-based system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    NFA needs a change in mid-level leadership as evidenced by NFA's high turnover rate. Someone new needs to be in charge of the staff to ensure that lazy employees are removed and hardworking employees are promoted and retained. There are people in supervisory positions that really should not be supervisors.
