I have been working at National Guard full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Generally take care of employees
    - Secure Employment
    - Great benefits
    - Good (not great) pay
    - Good people to work with

    Cons

    - Federal government bureaucracy
    - At times a good old boy network (this is getting better)
    - Very defined/military organization structure
    - Very difficult to get rid of deadwood (worthless employees)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Get rid of the deadwood (when possible)
    - Trust your good employees and give them the freedom to excel

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
