    I worked at Naughty Dog as a contractor for more than a year


    The people at Naughty Dog are some of the most talented human beings you will ever work with in the game industry. You'll work on some of the best games this industry will ever produce.


    Mgmt thinks 6-9 month crunch, which is normal for ND, is a feature, not a bug in their production process. They don't have producers, so everything upstream gets pushed and pushed downstream until the last possible second. This just wreaks havoc on the employees for the last 6 months of a game. If you have a spouse or family, you'll never see them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Directly engage with your employees more, especially during crunch. Listen to them - they're smart. People can't work 16 hrs day week after week and retain the same level of creativity over time - besides it's extremely physically and mentally unhealthy. Everybody wants to make the best game possible - their name is on it - so let them by pushing your designers/creative directors harder at the beginning of a game, so everyone downstream can have enough time to do their jobs properly. Its so disappointing to walk away from a project thinking you could have done such a better job if only the project was managed more time efficiently.
