I worked at New England Consulting Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

NECG is one of the only places where there is really no ceiling in the responsibility you want to undertake. You will be staffed immediately on client work, be expected to manage client relations, and write/contribute to final deliverables. You will also present your work on-site to C-level executives.

You will be able to voice your opinion and are expected to do so.

There are some neat company rituals that also make the experience fun and anything but bland

These all contribute to the unique opportunity NECG provides to right out of undergrad employees.

    Cons

Due to the system and company structure, the unique advantages do lend to some disadvantages. There is not a formal training process and one must be proactive to learn from other PMs and the Partners.

In addition, PMs are expected to assist in new business initiatives, which is unlike most other consulting firms. There is not a formal system to generate new business so it is difficult for recent grads to add-value in this area, though any help is appreciated by upper-management.

Work can be sporadic, and work requests sometimes seem irrelevant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand the strengths and weakness of each individual you hire to tailor your management practices to each employee. Create a more transparent environment and promote camaraderie first, and foremost.
