I worked at Nordstrom full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I like the idea of what Nordstrom stands for. Great values, fair compensation. They are a company that "gives back" very generously. Customer service is their number two priority. Lets be honest here, income is number one. No one is treated better than a Nordstrom customer.

    Cons

Managers are simply sales people promoted into management positions. I don't see anything wrong with that, it's actually a great perk of Nordstroms. They hire from within. I do however have a problem when the managers are not trained properly and it turn, cannot train their sales team properly. I think this manager should have been passed over for another. I don't think the best person for the job is always someone who has been with the company the longest. My managers "in training", were more qualified and knowledgeable than my department manager. That is fact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training for department managers. There is a problem when a sales associate does not know how to use a register, look book, or set up a rewards plan for a customer after 3 weeks of training. Maybe less box opening?
