    Pros

    Good pay. Strong customer base.

    Cons

Careers are easily derailed by a minority of incompetent people in positions of power. Thus eventually the best engineers leave and go to companies that care about their key personnel.
Management is incredibly incapable of distinguishing between the two despite the vast evidence. I was treated fantastically for 15 years with high ratings for my great track record. Then 2 years of being treated like chopped liver was enough to get me to quit and find respect elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Decide who the key people are who are actually doing the work and executing the contracts and do everything you can to make them happy. Neglect this for a year or two and you will be left with mediocre talent wondering why you no longer can execute on your contracts.
