I have been working at Northrop Grumman

    Pros

There are several great reasons to work for Northrop Grumman IT (now Northrop Grumman Information Systems). They are, in no particular order:

    1. Pretty good pay relative to the other contractors in the area. Be warned though, this is directly related to how badly they need to fill a position, so it does take a little bit of luck.

    2. Great benefits. 401k match with a defined benefit pension plan for current and former employees. New employees can see an additional 4% match to their 401k in lieu of the pension plan. Health care plans are numerous and fairly good in my opinion.

    3. Depending on your manager/client, they can be pretty flexible about work hours and dress code.

    4. Plenty of opportunities to get involved with other things AS LONG AS YOU ASK. It won't be done for you.

    Cons

    1. The biggest downside is the same problem that plagues all contractors....you are a body that is generating revenue. If you're not happy with your position, don't expect any help finding another one. Why would your manager want to let you go to another position when that means s/he will have to backfill you?

    2. Along the same lines, it's common that people are just showing up to get a check and not trying to cause any shake-ups or problems.

    3. Be ready for "bait and switch" when it comes to the job you'll be doing.

    4. Don't expect to be able to take advantage of the promised training opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people do the training they want to do. Listen to employee's concerns and try to address them.
