I have been working at Northrop Grumman

    Pros

    1. benefits are decent
    2. ability to work from home is nice
    3. 4 weeks of vacation is nice

    Cons

    1. An environment where it's acceptable for people to speak down to others and even yell.
    2. Almost impossible to advance unless you "make friends" with Director/VP.
    3. Org changes every year so there is never any cohesiveness to the environment, very difficult to keep staff motivated becauses there are always changes.
    4. Micromanagment of Sr Mgmt. For example, need a VP to approve me taking my staff to lunch, or getting a Blackberry.
    5. It's an environment where others will throw you under the bus to make themselves look better, this does not occur within functional orgs but across functional orgs.
    6. They always add top layers of mgmt while reducing lower level managers, staff. This company is TOP HEAVY.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Stop putting the wrong people in positions because "you know them" or friends or yours. I see so many people that have great skills but wrong skills in the position they currently hold. Positions are always opened but everyone always knows that there is someone already selected for the job. The posting is only there to make HR happy.
    2. When people see all kinds of budget cuts, reduce training, salary cuts, reduce staff but they also see certain people get new Blackberries every time a new one comes out, see Executives with 2 flat screen TV in their office, constant buildouts for new suites for execs. People just don't get it. Execs do excessive spending while lower levels "suffer". This is what the general people see. It's amazing when I have to get VP approval to take 2 of my staff to lunch to reward them for doing a great job on a special project. $50 lunch does not get approved, but let's order 100's of new Blackberries for the execs and PMO even when their "old" ones are 6 months old.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO
