    I worked at Odesus

    Pros

Free Coke in the fridge, occasional free lunch and occasional happy hour.

    Cons

For a small company the internal politics in Odesus is nothing short of amazing. On any given day there is sure to be conflict, whether it be between different account managers, account managers and recruiters, recruiters and operations, etc. Management is secretive to the extreme and does nothing to foster any sort of clear communication, leading to sly meetings around the water cooler to discuss rumours of what is going on within the company. This is not a company where you can expect to be congratulated for success or hard work, but you will indeed be pulled up for mistakes, or even leaving the office on time! To quote management “this is not a 9-6 job, if that’s what you are looking for leave now”, and “just because you have left the office does not mean the work stops”. You are expected to answer calls and reply to emails around the clock.

Management is absent and pretty much non-existent. There were periods were a week or more could easily go by without even seeing the owner. There were times were we had meetings and he was unengaged and much more interested in the tennis that was playing on the TV in his office. To say he rules with an iron fist wouldn’t be an exaggeration, and it wasn’t uncommon for screaming matches to be heard from his office. There were several times while I was there when the terms of employment were changed with immediate effect (hours of work, commission structure, mandatory afterhours networking events, etc.), and employees told to agree or not come back tomorrow.

My experience at Odesus wasn’t all bad, and once I managed to accept the fact that if management decide to take a dislike to you that your job could end at any moment, and got used to the back stabbing culture of the company I did have some fun working with Odesus. There were several occasions were we had work happy hours which were fun to attend, and while I don’t miss a lot of the people at Odesus I did meet some very cool people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a Recruiting Manager and support them when the Account Managers get upset because they don't get to boss around the Recruiters directly (which will happen).
