    I have been working at Office Depot full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    You learn a lot about customer service and merchandising right off the bat. If you start off in high school like I did and stay there for about 3 years you can definitely move up depending on who your superiors are. Started out as a Sales associate moved up 3 times to operations manager.

    The work/life balance is great in my experience. You can pretty much get off anytime you want as long as you let them know in advance.

    Cons

    The pay isn't great that's for sure. In fact it's one of the lowest paying retail jobs out there. Can't even make 30k being in management.

    Store sets unrealistic goals and corporate does not give the store enough hours to schedule enough people to be able to come anywhere close to attaining those goals.

    Ever since the merger selling services has been their top priority over everything. And the services themselves need a lot of improvement. Coming form a computer geek here. The customer service that those poor customers receive on the other end is horrid. You honestly think your going to get fired if nobody comes in to get their computer fixed.

    Much less focus on customer service now than it used to be.

    Outdated computer systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus more on customer service.

    Don't hold a knife to employees throats about selling services...remember this is an office supply store not Best Buy.

    Increase commission on plans and services. It's a measly 5%

    Update the computer systems.
