Good Salary but Managers are Too Self Centered.

I worked at Owens-Illinois full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay and benefits are great. The working environment is about average, but the people are friendly and hardworking. Leave, both vacation and sick, are not tracked and are basically trusted to employees to maintain (usually with iversight by managers).

    Cons

Managers are often not qualified for their positions and, from my experience, spend too much of their time finding others to blame for things that go wrong within their department. It often seemed that no one was willing to take responsibility for things that went wrong, and a lot of things went wrong. Managers are given too much free reign and often undermine their subordinates. As a result, the company has an unusually high incident of employee civil rights lawsuits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much behind closed door management. Although employees are very much encouraged to let management know of improprieties and mismanagement (they have a wide reaching corporate policy), they are more often then not punished for their actions. So many fellow employees that I got to know were very afraid that their manager would fire them if they stated their opinions. Too many problems arise because management is not supervised and these incidents are hidden.
