    Pros

    The best reasons to work there are likely to be the colleagues you will have and the camaraderie of being part of a global community when working in international sales. OUP tends to attract nice people as employees who genuinely care about what they do and the people they work with. OUPs reputation and quality of publishing itself are a pleasure to work with because you can believe in what you are doing.

    Cons

    The unwieldy structure and management culture at OUP. Whilst the people are nice it can sometimes feel like you are working for a very inflexible political party, with agendas and propaganda, that is afraid of truth, reality and change if this is in conflict with how things have always been done. Getting on in the company requires political astuteness. Being too real and saying things how they are doesn't necessarily serve one. Careers can stagnate at OUP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Encourage a climate of saying things how they are, rather than managers feeling they have to speak company propaganda, which leads to self-deception, lack of clarity and lack of decision-making within the company. Invest in more agile management, training in better decision-making, communication within the company structure and development of employees.
