Former Employee - Associate Dentist in Sacramento, CA

I worked at Pacific Dental Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They have a good work life balance , good hours and hence great work life balance. Good technology . Associate salaries start at about 500$/ day but can go down as low as 400$ for FT employees, Health and Dental insurance . They make water donations to Ethiopia . Offer CE courses

    Cons

A lot of micro management and hence high stress environment. Doctors are encouraged to not take a lunch break and work 9 hour days providing what they call the "perfect patient experience". there is no concept of sick or vacation time for doctors. (No pay I. E. ). Doctors are constantly pressurized to attend meetings that are usually more like marketing events to brainwash new docs fresh out of school.
Number driven and usually the only number that matters is the average daily production, every other number to measure doctors performance and patient care gets sidelined. So a good doctor is =Makes more $. They don't practice what they preach , they say they want associate doctors to provide visibility into a practice and any other staff issues but will ignore you when you do so. A lot of unrealistic demands from doctors, I was expected from time to time to make production every day with dental assistants in training. And if you try to complain about such relevant issues you indirectly get innuendos that your job is threatened. For 400$/ day , no thanks I would rather be a hygienist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to offer associate doctors a forum to discuss genuine concerns. Management is very unsupportive and also derogatory, they have absolutely no clue about risk management and give recommendations that can get doctors into serious malpractice issues
