  • Traditional, heavily phone-sales based entry level graduate recruitment role. Micromanagement culture.

I worked at PageGroup full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great initial training on the core sales skills and theories of recruitment. Good starting salary in comparison to competitors. (was £23k in 2012)

    Cons

Very long hours, minimum 12 hour days. Unnecessarily structured environment that didn't allow for any intellectual freedom. Culture of shaming those who are not hitting targets and monitoring everything including amount of time on the phone per day and whether the numbers were new or existing (used to monitor our sales calls). Extremely high turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some more time with graduates and allow them to work in ways that are good for them. Change heavy KPI structure and people will do more effective work, as opposed to biting targets to avoid being shamed.
