Current Employee - Almost Everything in Orlando, FL

I have been working at PetSmart part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you manage to get a full time role, the benefit package is good. Store is closed Christmas and Thanksgiving. Early close on other holidays. Vacation time for FT. Sick time is accrued per time worked. Employee shopping discount and twice a year you get double discount.

    Cons

Awful hours for stocking and inventory, managers cannot ever take of during holiday weeks (forget ever traveling to see your family...they have to come to you). If you get trained in multiple departments, you do not get compensated for it. Pet Care is non-stop work all day long...they get paid the same as a cashier who sits at a register all day. Over the course of 3 years, I have seen a total of 42 cents in a raise....that is 2 annual raises and a 90 day one. If you are forklift certified through petsmart, they will give you another 5-10 cents an hour. Schedule gets posted only 2 days before it is effective. It posts Saturday for the Monday 2 days later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More FT employees per store, earlier schedule making. It is hard for employees to CARE about the store and sales when they only work 5-10 hours a week. It is near impossible to properly train associates when they work this infrequently. Pet Care, more than anywhere else, should have more FT staff. These associates are supposed to care for would-be pets, understand fish and water quality, administer meds and so-forth.
