I have been working at Pew Charitable Trusts

    Pros

Pew has tons of really smart people. Good benefits. Nice buildings to work.

    Cons

Unfortunately, senior management with the CEO leading the way are not the smartest. EVERYTHING is micro-managed by the CEO - who is very insecure but has decided to manage by fear instead of rewarding people for doing great work.

Never put a nurse in the CEO job. Getting anything approved in a reasonable amount of time is out of the question. The CEO approves everything and trusts nobody - including her direct reports. Anyone who suggests to delegate is punished or put out to pasture. There are so many inefficiencies - I can't even begin to start a list for this service. *** I call on Pew current and former staff to come to this site and tell the world how odd the place is run.

So many of the smart people are looking for jobs. I've been there for a short while and was really excited about joining a great brand and company. That wears off quickly after folks learn of the role of the CEO and her crazy policies. Pew wastes more money doing things in a stupid fashion as a result of "how" the CEO wants them done. Millions of dollars down the toilet on the financial system that was put in recently. The CFO won't even own it as it's been such a bad project - run by consultants that are overpaid and deliver horrible results. A whole other team is now up and running with a person who has no experience at all overseeing complex financial systems. No surprise there as the folks that are promoted are only the "yes" folks who do whatever crazy things the CEO wants - without questioning anything. So much for skills and talent to get a top job at Pew.
It's rumored this week that the CEO is going to prevent people from listing their college degrees / designations on their email signatures. No more Phd, JD, etc. as she won't allow it since she doesn't have one.

The Philadelphia office morale is so bad as all their jobs are moving to Washington - one at a time without any real strategy told to staff. Poor folks. DC is run by consultants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This section isn't long enough for this kind of advice. how about - get a real management team that can run the company and earn the trust of the staff.
